Sample transport media, such as viral transport medium (VTM), stabilize cells and viruses from potentially infected patient samples for transport from the collection site to testing facilities. These reagents are suitable for various types of viruses, including coronaviruses, herpesviruses, and influenza viruses. Preserving the virus helps provide an accurate diagnosis and allows for sample storage for further study. Teknova products for sample transport include viral transport medium and saline solution, both of which are effective collection and transportation media for subsequent testing by qPCR . Different volumes and containers can be specified to satisfy unique needs. Both types of sample transport media are manufactured in a state-of-the-art GMP facility that is certified ISO 13485:2016 compliant.
Viral Transport Medium (CDC Formulation) is manufactured according to the formulation and standard operating procedure of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) . VTM contains Hanks’ balanced salt solution, fetal bovine serum, and the antimicrobials gentamicin and amphotericin B to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, respectively.
Teknova 0.85% Saline Solution is suitable for transporting viral samples as well as preparing test solutions of organisms.
