Mueller-Hinton Liquid Culture Media

Our Mueller-Hinton liquid culture media, including Mueller-Hinton broth (MHB), Mueller-Hinton II Broth, and MHB for Francisella, are standardized, non-selective media widely used for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and bacterial growth in suspension. Mueller-Hinton broth is the reference liquid medium recommended for broth-based susceptibility assays, including MIC determination and antimicrobial screening studies.

What is Mueller-Hinton broth (MHB)?

Mueller-Hinton liquid culture media, commonly referred to as Mueller-Hinton broth (MHB), is a defined, non-selective bacterial growth medium composed of beef infusion, casein hydrolysate, and starch. This formulation supports uniform bacterial growth while minimizing factors that interfere with antimicrobial activity, making it the standard liquid medium for antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST).

Mueller-Hinton broth is routinely used to culture non-fastidious bacteria, including E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and other clinically relevant pathogens. Because of its consistent composition and reproducible performance, Mueller-Hinton liquid culture media is recommended by CLSI and EUCAST for broth-based antimicrobial susceptibility testing, including minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays.

Why choose Teknova’s Mueller-Hinton broth (MHB)?

Our Mueller-Hinton liquid culture media is supplied as a sterile, ready-to-use broth, eliminating in-house media preparation and reducing variability across susceptibility testing workflows.

We offer a wide variety of ready-to-ship Mueller-Hinton broth products, including Mueller-Hinton II Broth Cation Adjusted (working concentration and 2X stocks) and MHB for Francisella. All our products are manufactured using validated processes and undergo rigorous quality control testing to ensure performance and lot-to-lot consistency. In addition to standard offerings, we provide efficient custom manufacturing services, with options including modified formulations, supplemented media, alternative fill volumes, and bulk container formats to meet specialized clinical, pharmaceutical, and research requirements.
