Middlebrook Agar Plates
Middlebrook agar plates are used for culturing and studying Mycobacterium species, particularly M. tuberculosis. They are widely used in mycobacterial isolation, cultivation, physiology studies, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Middlebrook agar plates support the growth of mycobacteria, including M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, M. avium, and related species. Growth is typically enhanced with OADC supplementation, which includes albumin, dextrose, catalase, oleic acid, and sodium chloride.
Both are defined mycobacterial media, but Middlebrook 7H11 agar contains additional casein hydrolysate, which can support improved growth of more fastidious mycobacteria compared to 7H10 agar.
Yes. Middlebrook agar plates are commonly supplemented with OADC enrichment and may include selective antibiotics for antibiotic susceptibility testing. We can manufacture custom formulations tailored to your experimental, testing, and diagnostic needs. Learn more about our custom process.
Middlebrook agar plates should typically be refrigerated. The storage instructions and expiration date for your specific product can be found on your product label.
