8M Urea is a ready-to-use solution of urea, a chaotropic denaturant, in purified water. The 1 L fill supports laboratory and pilot-scale use.

It is commonly used to denature and solubilize proteins for electrophoresis, refolding, and mass spectrometry sample preparation. Avoid heating, since urea decomposes to cyanate, which carbamylates lysines and N-termini. Dilute below 1 M before trypsin digestion.
