Tryptic Soy Broth with 5% Sheep’s Blood and 0.001% Pyridoxal-HCl is an enriched liquid medium for the cultivation of fastidious bacteria, including pyridoxal-dependent Streptococcus species. Defibrinated sheep’s blood supplies additional growth factors and red cell components, and pyridoxal-HCl provides vitamin B6–derived cofactor support for organisms with pyridoxal requirements.

  • 1.700% Tryptone
  • 0.300% Soytone
  • 0.250% Glucose
  • 0.250% Dipotassium Phosphate
  • 0.500% Sodium Chloride
  • 5.000% Sheep's Blood
  • 0.001% Pyridoxal-HCl
  • Enrichment of fastidious organisms: Cultivation of Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae supported by 5% sheep’s blood and 0.250% glucose.

  • Support for pyridoxal-dependent bacteria: Reliable growth of nutritionally variant streptococci (Abiotrophia, Granulicatella) via 0.001% Pyridoxal-HCl.

  • Recovery from low-inoculum clinical specimens: Enrichment of delicate or stressed organisms from swabs and sterile body fluids.

  • Hemolysin and toxin production assays: Assessment of hemolytic activity (e.g., Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus) in blood-supplemented broth.

  • Antimicrobial susceptibility of fastidious bacteria: Broth-based MIC testing requiring blood and pyridoxal supplementation.

  • Anaerobe enrichment: Growth of blood-requiring anaerobes (e.g., Clostridium spp.) under anaerobic conditions.

  • General-purpose cultivation: Robust growth of streptococci and related pathogens (Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus pneumoniae) facilitated by glucose and phosphate buffering.

  • Quality control of media and strains: Verification of performance with fastidious ATCC control organisms.
