Sabouraud Dextrose Broth is a peptone–dextrose liquid medium formulated for the culture of yeasts and molds in clinical, environmental, and industrial microbiology.

The dextrose provides a readily metabolizable carbon source, and the peptone supplies peptides, amino acids, and nitrogen to support microbial nutritional requirements in liquid culture.

  • 1.0% Tryptone
  • 2.0% Dextrose
  • Fungal Cultivation and Enrichment: Supports robust growth of yeasts (e.g., Candida spp., Saccharomyces spp.) and molds (e.g., Aspergillus spp., Penicillium spp., dermatophytes) for isolation and propagation.

  • Clinical Mycology: Enriches pathogenic fungi from patient specimens prior to identification or downstream testing.

  • Antifungal Susceptibility Testing: Used to propagate and standardize fungal inocula for MIC and other susceptibility assays.

  • Sterility and Contamination Testing: Detects yeast and mold contamination in pharmaceuticals, bioprocess samples, and water testing workflows.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Enrichment of airborne or surface-recovered fungi from cleanrooms, production areas, and laboratories.

  • Food and Beverage Quality Control: Detection and enrichment of yeasts and molds in products such as juices, dairy, beer, wine, and baked goods.

  • Cosmetics and Personal Care Testing: Monitors yeast and mold contamination in cosmetics, toiletries, and topical products.

  • Culture Maintenance: Short-term propagation and maintenance of fungal strains for biobanking or downstream assays.

  • Mycotoxin Research: Cultivation of mycotoxin-producing molds for subsequent analytical studies.

  • Veterinary and Plant Pathology: Isolation and enrichment of fungal pathogens from animal and plant specimens.
