Sabouraud Dextrose Emmons Agar Plates with Gentamicin-50 are a mycological medium formulated for the cultivation and isolation of yeasts and filamentous fungi. The Emmons formulation employs reduced carbohydrate content and a near-neutral pH relative to classical Sabouraud dextrose agar, accommodating a broad range of fungal taxa.

Gentamicin sulfate at 50 µg/mL provides antibacterial selection during primary isolation by suppressing growth of gentamicin-susceptible bacteria, facilitating recovery of fungal organisms from mixed specimens.

  • 0.5% Tryptone
  • 0.5% Proteose Peptone
  • 2.0% Dextrose
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 50µg/mL Gentamicin Sulfate
  • Isolation of Yeasts and Molds: Selective recovery of fungi (e.g., Candida and filamentous molds) from clinical, environmental, and food samples.

  • Dermatophyte Recovery: Cultivation of dermatophytes from skin, hair, and nail specimens for diagnostic mycology.

  • Selective Fungal Culture from Polymicrobial Samples: Gentamicin (50 µg/mL) suppresses bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to favor fungal growth.

  • Environmental and Pharmaceutical QC: Enumeration and monitoring of fungal bioburden on surfaces, air plates, and water systems.

  • Food and Beverage Testing: Detection of yeasts and molds in raw materials and finished products for spoilage assessment.

  • Clinical Mycology Workflows: Primary plating and subculture of fungal isolates for identification and susceptibility testing.

  • Fungal Colony Morphology Assessment: Observation of yeast and mold colony characteristics on a nutritionally rich, dextrose-based agar.

  • Mycological Stock Maintenance: Routine propagation and short-term maintenance of fungal strains for laboratory use.
