Sabouraud Dextrose Agar with Animal-Free Soytone is an agar medium formulated for the cultivation and maintenance of yeasts and molds. The high carbohydrate content supports fungal energy metabolism, and the acidic reaction (approximately pH 5.6 at 25 °C) reduces the growth of many bacterial contaminants.

Animal-free soytone provides peptides, amino acids, and vitamins as the primary nitrogen and growth-factor source, while agar supplies a solid surface for colony development and morphological observation. Intended for general mycological applications, including routine culture, isolation, and enumeration of environmental and clinical fungal specimens.

  • 1.0% Animal-Free Soytone
  • 4.0% Dextrose
  • 1.5% Agar
  • Isolation and Cultivation of Fungi and Yeasts: Selective recovery of yeasts and molds from clinical, environmental, and food samples using a 4.0% dextrose, 1.0% animal-free soytone, 1.5% agar formulation.

  • Clinical Mycology: Detection and primary culture of Candida spp. and other pathogenic yeasts from patient specimens.

  • Dermatophyte Recovery: Isolation of dermatophytes from skin, hair, and nail samples for diagnostic workups.

  • Food and Beverage QC: Enumeration of yeasts and molds in dairy, beverages, baked goods, and raw ingredients for quality control.

  • Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Testing: Bioburden and microbial limits testing focused on yeast and mold contamination.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Air, surface, and cleanroom monitoring for fungal contamination using 100 mm sterile plates.

  • Culture Maintenance: Routine propagation and stock maintenance of laboratory yeast and mold strains.

  • Mixed Flora Suppression: Low pH and high dextrose favor fungi while inhibiting bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Colony Morphology Assessment: Phenotypic evaluation of yeast and mold colony morphology and pigmentation on a nutrient-rich surface.

  • Antimicrobial Evaluation: Supplement-compatible base for adding antibiotics or antifungals to assess microbial susceptibility profiles.
