Sabouraud Dextrose Agar Plates are prepared agar-based media formulated for the cultivation, isolation, and maintenance of yeasts and filamentous fungi. The acidic pH and high carbohydrate content provide conditions commonly used for recovering fungal organisms from clinical, environmental, and industrial samples.

Plates are ready-to-use and suitable for streaking, spread plating, or replica plating workflows. Recommended incubation is at 25–30 °C for molds and 30–37 °C for yeasts, with observation over 24–120 hours depending on organism and load. Store plates refrigerated and protect from dehydration and contamination.

  • 1.0% Tryptone
  • 4.0% Dextrose
  • 1.5% Agar
  • Fungal Isolation and Enumeration: Recovers yeasts and molds from clinical and environmental specimens using 1.0% tryptone, 4.0% dextrose, 1.5% agar; acidic conditions help suppress bacteria like Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Environmental Monitoring/Air Sampling: 150 mm plates used as settle plates or in active air samplers for airborne yeast and mold surveillance in cleanrooms and production areas.

  • Dermatophyte Recovery: Isolation of skin, hair, and nail pathogens (e.g., dermatophytes) from clinical specimens for diagnosis.

  • Food and Beverage Quality Control: Detection and enumeration of yeasts and molds in foods, beverages, and dairy products.

  • Colony Morphology and Sporulation Studies: Assessment of fungal colony characteristics, pigmentation, and sporulation; maintenance of fungal stock cultures.

  • Bioburden and Microbial Limits Testing: Quantification of fungal contamination in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and personal care products.

  • Pre-Susceptibility Culture: Growth and recovery of fungal isolates prior to antifungal susceptibility testing workflows.

  • Selectivity in Mixed Cultures: Preferential recovery of fungi from bacteria-rich samples; can be supplemented to further inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other bacteria.

  • Inoculum Preparation for Identification: Cultivation of pure fungal colonies for downstream ID methods (microscopy, biochemical panels, MALDI-TOF).

  • Environmental and Clinical Mycology Teaching: Routine mycology exercises demonstrating yeast and mold growth under acidic, high-dextrose conditions.
