PBS is a ready-to-use phosphate-buffered saline at physiological pH and ionic strength in purified water. The 1 L fill supports laboratory-scale purification.

It is commonly used as a wash, dilution, and equilibration buffer for cells, proteins, and immunoassays, and as an equilibration and wash buffer for affinity chromatography, including Protein A capture of antibodies.

  • 137mM Sodium Chloride
  • 4.3mM Disodium Phosphate
  • 2.7mM Potassium Chloride
  • 1.4mM Monopotassium Phosphate
  • Protein A Equilibration and Wash: Neutral-pH buffer for equilibrating and washing Protein A columns before antibody elution.
  • Cell Washing and Resuspension: Isotonic phosphate-buffered saline for washing, rinsing, and resuspending cells and tissues.
  • ELISA Plate Washing: Phosphate-buffered saline for washing plates between ELISA steps.
  • Flow Cytometry: Phosphate-buffered saline for staining, washing, and resuspending cells for flow cytometry.
  • Microscopy and Imaging: Buffer for rinsing slides and maintaining cells during microscopy and live-cell imaging.
  • Antibody Dilution and Storage: Phosphate-buffered saline for diluting primary and secondary antibodies and conjugates.
  • Sample and Reagent Dilution: Diluent for samples, standards, and reagents.
  • pH: 7.30 ± 0.20
  • Endotoxin: ≤0.2EU/mL
