Pseudomonas Isolation Agar Plates are a selective agar medium used for the isolation and detection of Pseudomonas spp., including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, from mixed microbial samples.

The medium composition is formulated to favor the growth of Pseudomonas while suppressing accompanying flora, supporting recovery from clinical, environmental, food, and industrial matrices.

  • 2.0% Tryptone
  • 0.14% Magnesium Chloride
  • 1.0% Potassium Sulfate
  • 0.003% Irgasan
  • 2.0% Glycerol
  • 1.36% Agar
  • Selective Isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Irgasan-based suppression of competing flora enables recovery from clinical, environmental, and industrial samples.

  • Pigment Differentiation: Magnesium chloride, potassium sulfate, and glycerol promote pyocyanin and pyoverdine production for presumptive identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Enumeration in Water and Wastewater: Used to detect and count Pseudomonas in potable water, cooling towers, pools, and wastewater.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Surveillance of Pseudomonas spp. on surfaces, equipment, and cleanroom areas in healthcare and manufacturing.

  • Bioburden and Contamination Screening: Detection of Pseudomonas spp. in pharmaceutical, bioprocess, and cosmetic samples prior to release testing.

  • Food and Beverage Hygiene Testing: Recovery of Pseudomonas spp. from raw materials, process water, and finished products.

  • Pre-isolation for AST and ID Workflows: Obtaining pure Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonies prior to antimicrobial susceptibility testing and identification.

  • Quality Control of Reference Strains: Routine QC of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other Pseudomonas spp. to verify medium selectivity and performance.
