Nutrient Broth (8 g/L Formulation) is a general-purpose liquid medium used for the cultivation and maintenance of non-fastidious bacteria in laboratory settings. It is suitable for routine culture propagation, inoculum preparation, and turbidity-based growth monitoring in shake flasks, tubes, and microplates.

Common applications include the culture of enteric and environmental isolates such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as quality control procedures where consistent, low-background media are required.

  • 0.3% Beef Extract
  • 0.5% Peptone
  • General Cultivation: Non-selective growth of non-fastidious bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis).

  • Inoculum Preparation: Generating starter cultures for plating, biochemical tests, and downstream workflows.

  • Enrichment and Recovery: Resuscitation of stressed or starved cells from food, water, and environmental samples (e.g., Salmonella enterica, Enterobacter cloacae).

  • Growth Promotion Testing: QC verification of media performance with standard organisms (e.g., E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus).

  • Sterility Testing: Non-selective medium for detecting microbial contamination in process and product samples.

  • Antimicrobial Studies: Baseline growth controls and pre-cultures for MIC/MBC and disinfectant efficacy testing.

  • Enumeration and Growth Curves: Turbidity/OD600 measurements for counting and kinetic studies.

  • Culture Maintenance: Short-term propagation and subculture of laboratory strains (e.g., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis).

  • Seed Cultures for Fermentation: Preparing inocula for small-scale fermentation and recombinant workflows.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Recovery medium for surface/swab samples and bioburden assessments.

  • Phage Workflows: Growing bacterial hosts for bacteriophage propagation and assays.

  • Education and Training: Teaching labs for basic microbial cultivation and media preparation skills.

  • pH: 6.80 ± 0.20
