Nutrient Broth (8 g/L formulation) is a general-purpose liquid medium for the cultivation and maintenance of nonfastidious bacteria from clinical, environmental, food, and industrial sources. It is suitable for routine propagation, inoculum preparation, and qualitative enrichment of organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and members of the Enterobacteriaceae.

  • 0.8% Nutrient Broth
  • General Bacterial Cultivation: Supports growth of nonfastidious organisms in 0.8% (8 g/L) Nutrient Broth, including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Inoculum Preparation: Used to generate standardized starter cultures for biochemical testing, plating, and downstream assays.

  • Turbidity and Growth Curve Studies: Enables OD-based monitoring of bacterial proliferation and kinetics in a simple, defined-strength medium.

  • Short-Term Culture Maintenance: Provides a general-purpose medium for holding and routine subculture of lab strains.

  • Pre-Enrichment of Samples: Employed for preliminary enrichment of environmental swabs, rinse samples, and nonfastidious bacteria prior to selective methods.

  • Teaching and Training Labs: Commonly used in academic exercises for basic bacteriology practices and demonstrations.

  • Biochemical Assay Setup: Supplies actively growing cultures for tests such as catalase, oxidase, and carbohydrate utilization panels.

  • Phage Work (General-Purpose Host Growth): Cultivates host bacteria for bacteriophage propagation when a simple nutrient medium is acceptable.

  • Quality Control of Procedures: Serves as a nonselective control medium for routine media checks and process verification with reference strains.

  • Recovery of Lyophilized Cultures: Rehydrates and propagates dehydrated or preserved nonfastidious bacterial stocks.

  • pH: 6.80 ± 0.10
