20mM MES with 1mM Potassium Chloride and 1M Sodium Chloride, pH 6.5 is a ready-to-use high-salt MES buffer in purified water, adjusted to pH 6.5. MES buffers most effectively near its pKa of about 6.1. The 1 L fill supports laboratory and pilot-scale purification.

It is commonly used as the high-salt elution buffer for cation-exchange chromatography of proteins. Blend it with a low-salt MES buffer to run step or linear salt gradients.
