LB Agar Plates with Carbenicillin-50 are a solid Luria-Bertani medium that supports the growth and selection of carbenicillin-resistant E. coli strains. The inclusion of 50 µg/mL carbenicillin disodium salt enables selection of plasmid-bearing transformants.

  • 1.0% Tryptone
  • 0.5% Yeast Extract
  • 1.0% Sodium Chloride
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 50µg/mL Carbenicillin Disodium Salt
  • Antibiotic Selection of Transformants: Selects E. coli colonies carrying plasmids with bla (amp/carbenicillin) resistance.

  • Plasmid Cloning and Maintenance: Maintains plasmid-bearing E. coli strains under carbenicillin selection pressure.

  • Colony Screening (e.g., Colony PCR): Enables rapid screening of antibiotic-resistant colonies for correct inserts.

  • Expression Strain Screening: Plates recombinant E. coli expressing proteins from carbenicillin-selectable vectors.

  • Library Construction and Preservation: Supports construction and maintenance of carbenicillin-selectable genomic/cDNA libraries in E. coli.

  • Blue–White Screening (with Supplements): Performs α-complementation screens on LB + X-gal/IPTG with carbenicillin-selectable plasmids.

  • Conjugation/Mating Selections: Selects recipients or transconjugants carrying bla-marked plasmids in E. coli.

  • CFU Enumeration under Selection: Quantifies viable antibiotic-resistant E. coli after transformations or stress assays.

  • Strain Preservation Workflows: Picks isolated colonies for glycerol stocks or master plates while maintaining selection.

  • Quality Control of Plasmid Stability: Monitors retention of bla-marked plasmids in cultured E. coli populations.
