LB Agar Plates with Kanamycin-50 are solid agar media formulated for cultivation and selection of kanamycin-resistant E. coli strains. The inclusion of 50 µg/mL kanamycin sulfate enables selection of plasmid-bearing transformants carrying kanamycin resistance markers.

These plates are suitable for routine cloning workflows, maintenance of recombinant strains, and screening of transformants in molecular biology applications requiring kanamycin selection.

  • 1.0% Tryptone
  • 0.5% Yeast Extract
  • 1.0% Sodium Chloride
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 50µg/mL Kanamycin Sulfate
  • Antibiotic Selection of Transformants: Isolation of kanamycin-resistant colonies after plasmid transformation in Escherichia coli.

  • Plasmid Maintenance: Stable propagation of KanR plasmids in cloning and protein expression strains of Escherichia coli.

  • Colony Screening: Picking colonies for colony PCR, Sanger sequencing, or miniprep/restriction analysis under kanamycin selection.

  • Streaking for Single Colonies: Purification of KanR strains by streaking and re-isolation on selective LB agar.

  • CFU Enumeration: Viable count assays and titering of kanamycin-resistant bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis (KanR).

  • Conjugation/Transduction Selection: Selecting recipients or transductants carrying KanR markers after mating or phage transduction.

  • Genome Editing Verification: Selection and maintenance of strains with kanamycin cassette integrations or replacements.

  • Strain Archiving: Short-term storage and stab cultures of KanR strains on solid medium.

  • Library Screens: Selection of pooled or arrayed mutant libraries (e.g., transposon or CRISPRi libraries) using kanamycin resistance.

  • Heterologous Expression Workflows: Maintaining expression constructs with KanR in hosts like Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis (KanR).
