LB Agar Plates with 1% Glucose and Chloramphenicol-34 is a nutrient agar medium formulated for the growth and selection of chloramphenicol-resistant E. coli strains. The addition of 1% glucose enhances metabolic activity and biomass yield, and 34 µg/mL chloramphenicol enables selection of plasmid-bearing transformants.

Suitable for cloning workflows and routine maintenance of E. coli strains carrying chloramphenicol resistance markers, providing consistent selection and colony formation under standard incubator conditions.

  • 1.0% Tryptone
  • 0.5% Yeast Extract
  • 1.0% Sodium chloride
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 1.0% Cerelose Anhydrous Dextrose (Glucose)
  • 34µg/mL Chloramphenicol
  • Selection of Chloramphenicol-Resistant Clones: Isolates colonies carrying cat-marked plasmids or chromosomal integrations at 34 µg/mL chloramphenicol.

  • Bacterial Transformation and Cloning: Plates transformants on LB agar with 1% glucose to recover and select recombinant clones.

  • Plasmid Maintenance: Maintains cat-selectable plasmids in hosts such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, and Bacillus subtilis.

  • Recombinant Protein Workflows: Supports strain upkeep for expression vectors with chloramphenicol resistance.

  • Catabolite Repression (1% Glucose): Reduces basal expression from inducible promoters to stabilize clones carrying toxic or burdensome inserts.

  • Library Construction and Screening: Enables selection of mutant or genomic libraries under chloramphenicol pressure.

  • CFU Enumeration on Selective Media: Quantifies viable, resistant bacteria in mixed populations.

  • Genetic Exchange Selection: Selects recipients after conjugation, transduction, or recombineering using cat markers.

  • Chromosomal Integration Verification: Recovers integrants or allelic replacements with chloramphenicol cassettes.

  • Contamination Control: Restricts growth to chloramphenicol-resistant strains on LB agar containing 34 µg/mL chloramphenicol.
