50 mg/mL Kanamycin Solution is an aqueous, sterile-filtered antibiotic stock used for the selection and maintenance of kanamycin-resistant bacteria. It is suitable for routine cloning workflows and plasmid maintenance in cultures and on agar media containing kanamycin, including applications with E. coli strains carrying kanamycin resistance markers.

Kanamycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, providing selective pressure to maintain plasmids or genomic integrations that confer resistance during microbial culture.

  • 50mg/mL Kanamycin Sulfate
  • Bacterial Antibiotic Selection: Selects transformants carrying kanamycin resistance on plates and in liquid culture using 50mg/mL Kanamycin Sulfate stock for dilution.

  • Plasmid Maintenance and Expression: Maintains kanR plasmids during cloning and protein expression in Escherichia coli and other bacteria.

  • Agrobacterium Workflows: Supports selection and maintenance of kanR vectors in Agrobacterium tumefaciens for plant transformation protocols.

  • Plant Tissue Culture Selection: Selects nptII/neo-marked transgenics in callus and regeneration media after Agrobacterium-mediated transformation.

  • Yeast Genetics (KanMX): Enables selection of KanMX-marked integrations and deletions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

  • Bacterial Gene Knockouts/Transposon Mutagenesis: Selects kanamycin-resistant insertion mutants in bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas, and Bacillus subtilis.

  • Culture Contamination Control: Supplement cell culture media to suppress bacterial contaminants when appropriate laboratory guidelines allow.
