Kanamycin Sulfate, USP Grade is an aminoglycoside antibiotic commonly used for the selection and maintenance of kanamycin-resistant bacterial strains and plasmids in molecular biology workflows. It inhibits prokaryotic protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. The compound is water-soluble and compatible with routine agar and broth media used for cloning and expression, including applications with E. coli.

This material is suitable for use in microbial selection systems, maintenance of recombinant constructs, and routine quality control where a USP-grade antibiotic is required. It supports workflows that require differentiation of kanamycin-resistant transformants in mixed populations of E. coli and other laboratory bacterial hosts.

  • Kanamycin Sulfate
  • USP Grade
  • Antibiotic Selection in Bacteria: Maintains plasmids carrying kanamycin-resistance (nptII/aphA) in E. coli and other susceptible bacteria during cloning and culture.

  • Recombinant Protein Expression: Ensures selection of expression vectors in E. coli for consistent protein production in shake flasks and bioreactors.

  • Bacterial Media Supplementation: Added to LB, TB, or minimal media agar/broth to select and maintain kanamycin-resistant colonies.

  • Plant Transformation Selection: Selects transgenic plant cells expressing nptII in tissue culture and regeneration workflows, including Agrobacterium-mediated protocols.

  • Cell Culture Contamination Control: Helps suppress growth of susceptible bacteria in mammalian and insect cell cultures.

  • Microbial Susceptibility Testing: Used to determine MICs and perform antimicrobial susceptibility assays for quality control and research.

  • Strain and Plasmid Maintenance: Preserves selection pressure in starter cultures, glycerol stocks, and long-term storage of engineered bacterial lines.
