Kanamycin Solution is an aminoglycoside antibiotic solution used for selection and maintenance of kanamycin-resistant bacterial strains, supporting the propagation of plasmids carrying kanamycin resistance markers in molecular cloning and expression applications. It is commonly used with bacterial culture media and agar plates to enable selection of transformants.

This solution inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria and is suitable for workflows involving E. coli and other kanamycin-resistant organisms where stable maintenance of kanamycin-selectable plasmids is required.

  • Bacterial Cloning and Transformation: Selects kanamycin-resistant transformants of Escherichia coli using 50mg/mL Kanamycin Solution.

  • Plasmid Maintenance and Protein Expression: Maintains kanR plasmids during expression in Escherichia coli cultures.

  • Selective Media Preparation: Supplements LB agar and liquid media for kanamycin selection in bacterial cultures.

  • Recombineering and Transposon Mutagenesis: Selects kanR insertions during genome editing workflows in Escherichia coli and related bacteria.

  • Bacterial Conjugation/Mating: Selects transconjugants carrying kanR markers after conjugation experiments.

  • Yeast Genetics (kanMX Marker): Selects kanMX-marked strains in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

  • Broad-Host Plasmid Selection: Maintains kanR plasmids in diverse bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, and Bacillus subtilis.

  • Strain Preservation: Prepares and maintains glycerol stocks of kanamycin-resistant bacterial strains.

  • Antibiotic Marker Verification: Confirms plasmid antibiotic markers by growth on kanamycin-containing media.
