Gentamicin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic supplied as the sulfate salt and conforming to USP quality standards. It is widely used in laboratory settings for applications that require an antibacterial agent with activity primarily against aerobic Gram-negative organisms and certain Gram-positive species.

Gentamicin exhibits activity against organisms such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Serratia spp., and Staphylococcus aureus. In research workflows, it is employed as a selective component in microbiology and cell culture to manage bacterial presence. Its antibacterial effect is associated with inhibition of protein synthesis via interaction with the 30S ribosomal subunit.

  • Gentamicin Sulfate
  • USP Grade
  • Mammalian Cell Culture Contamination Control: Broad-spectrum antibiotic to prevent bacterial contamination in primary and continuous cell lines.

  • Selectable Marker in Bacterial Cloning: Selection and maintenance of plasmids carrying gentamicin-resistance cassettes in Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other species.

  • Selective Plating and Enumeration: Inclusion in agar or broth to isolate and quantify gentamicin-resistant bacteria from mixed cultures or environmental samples.

  • Plant Tissue Culture Decontamination: Suppresses bacterial overgrowth during plant transformation and regeneration workflows.

  • Antibiotic Cocktails in Cell Isolation: Combined with other antibiotics to minimize microbial contamination during primary tissue processing.

  • Bioprocess and Fermentation Control: Added to media to limit adventitious bacterial contamination in upstream processes.

  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing: Used in MIC, MBC, and disk diffusion assays against organisms such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus.
