20% (w/v) Glucose is a sterile, ready-to-use solution of anhydrous D-glucose (dextrose) in purified water. The concentration is defined on a weight-per-volume basis: 20 g of glucose per 100 mL of final solution, or 200 g/L. The 1 L fill supports high-volume laboratory and pilot-scale preparation.

It is commonly used as a defined carbon source when supplementing sterilized culture media, and as a working-strength stock that needs no further dilution. Adding 100 mL per liter of finished medium gives 2% (w/v) glucose, the level typical for LB, 2XYT, TB, and defined media such as M9. Add aseptically after autoclaving to avoid thermal degradation.

  • 20% (w/v) Anhydrous Glucose (Dextrose) in Water
  • Microbial Culture Supplementation: Sterile carbon source added to broth and agar media for growth of Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other bacteria.

  • Defined and Minimal Media Preparation: Added post-sterilization to set precise glucose levels in M9, M63, MOPS, and other defined formulations.

  • Agar Plate Supplementation: Added to cooled molten agar to prepare glucose-supplemented plates such as LB-glucose and minimal agar for colony growth and phenotype screening.

  • Yeast and Fungal Culture: Carbon source for YPD, synthetic defined (SD), and Sabouraud dextrose formulations in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and filamentous fungi, including ethanol production and metabolic engineering workflows.

  • Fed-Batch Fermentation Feed: Sterile carbon feed to control growth rate, limit overflow metabolism and acetate formation, and drive productivity in high-cell-density processes.

  • Transformation Recovery (SOC/SOB): Supplements SOC and SOB recovery media to improve post-transformation outgrowth and viability of competent Escherichia coli.

  • Catabolite Repression and Expression Control: Provides glucose for cAMP-CRP-mediated repression, minimizing basal expression from lac, T7-lac, and ara systems during cloning and pre-induction growth.

  • Mammalian Cell Culture Glucose Adjustment: Sterile stock to set, raise, or restore glucose in DMEM and other basal media for CHO, HEK293, and other energy-demanding lines, including starvation and re-feed designs.

  • Osmolality Adjustment and Osmotic Stress Studies: Tunes osmolality without adding ions, for osmoregulation and stress-adaptation work and for protoplast handling where glucose is preferred over salts.

  • Growth Kinetics and Metabolic Flux Studies: Defined carbon input for OD-based growth curves, uptake and consumption rates, yield coefficients, glycolytic flux, respiration measurements, transporter studies, and diauxic shift experiments.

  • Auto-Induction and Expression Media: Component of auto-induction and regulated feeding strategies for recombinant protein expression in Escherichia coli.

  • Enzyme Assay Substrate: Substrate for glycolytic and glucose-utilizing enzyme assays including hexokinase/G6PDH and glucose oxidase, and for NAD(P)H-generating coupled reactions.

  • Glucose Standards and Calibration Curves: Preparation of standard curves and controls for glucose quantification, glucose meters, biochemical analyzers, HPLC, and biosensor validation.

  • Phenotypic and Biofilm Assays: Controls carbon availability to assess biofilm formation, pathogenesis models, and carbohydrate-dependent phenotypes, including staphylococcal and Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm work and Enterobacteriaceae fermentation panels.
