Fluid D is a diluent and rinse solution used in microbiological sample preparation, including membrane filtration and enumeration workflows for water, dairy, food, environmental, and pharmaceutical testing. It is employed for rinsing sampling devices and membrane filters, dispersing test materials, and preparing serial dilutions prior to microbial counts.

Applications include recovery and enumeration of heterotrophic bacteria, coliforms, and Escherichia coli from a variety of sample matrices, as specified in standard methods and compendial procedures.

  • 0.1% Meat Peptone
  • 0.1% Tween-80
  • Diluent for Microbial Limits Testing: Used as a sample diluent for bioburden/microbial enumeration of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and medical devices.

  • Membrane Filtration Rinse: Employed as a rinsing/transfer fluid during membrane filtration to recover microorganisms from products and filters.

  • Sterility and Preservative Efficacy Workflows: Serves as a rinse/holding fluid in sterility-related and antimicrobial effectiveness studies to facilitate organism recovery.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Used as a swab/rinse medium for surfaces and equipment to recover organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Sample Preparation of Oily/Fatty Matrices: Tween-80 aids emulsification/dispersion of hydrophobic products to release and recover microorganisms.

  • General Rinse/Transfer Medium: Facilitates transfer of microorganisms from test articles to culture media without excessive stress.

  • Short-Term Holding/Transport: Meat Peptone supports temporary maintenance of viability prior to plating or enrichment.

  • Recovery in Sanitizer/Detergent Studies: Used to recover survivors after surface or product exposure in efficacy testing workflows.

  • pH: 7.10 ± 0.20
