500mM EDTA, pH 8.0 is an EDTA stock in purified water, adjusted to pH 8.0, where EDTA dissolves fully and chelates divalent metal ions efficiently. The 100 mL fill suits bench-scale use.

It is commonly used to chelate divalent metal ions in molecular biology, protein purification, and enzyme work, inhibiting metalloproteases and nucleases and protecting reduced thiols from metal-catalyzed oxidation. Add 2 mL per liter for 1 mM EDTA.

  • Thiol Protection in Cysteine Conjugation: Chelating agent for reduction and conjugation buffers that limits metal-catalyzed reoxidation of freed cysteine thiols.
  • Nucleic Acid Resuspension and Storage: EDTA stock for preparing TE buffer that protects DNA and RNA from nucleases.
  • Enzyme Quenching and Metal Chelation: Chelating agent for stopping metal-dependent enzyme reactions, inhibiting nucleases, and limiting metal-catalyzed oxidation.
  • Protein Purification and Chromatography: Chelating agent that inhibits metalloproteases during protein purification.
  • Biofilm Disruption: Chelating agent for disrupting biofilm matrices by removing divalent cations.
  • Buffer and Reagent Preparation: EDTA stock for adding chelator to buffers and reagents.
