100 mg/mL Carbenicillin is an antibiotic stock solution used for selection and maintenance of beta-lactam–resistant E. coli strains bearing beta-lactamase plasmid markers. It is applied in cloning workflows to maintain plasmid integrity in cultures and on agar plates.

Typical working concentrations are 50–100 µg/mL in liquid media and agar. Carbenicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that targets bacterial cell wall synthesis and is commonly used as an alternative to ampicillin for selection of transformants.

  • 100mg/mL Carbenicillin Disodium Salt
  • Plasmid Selection in Escherichia coli: Selects for bla (ampicillin/carbenicillin-resistance) plasmids after transformation on plates and in liquid culture.

  • Plasmid Maintenance During Protein Expression: Maintains selection for beta-lactamase–bearing vectors in recombinant protein production in E. coli.

  • Agar Plate Selection with Reduced Satellites: Preferred over ampicillin to minimize satellite colony formation during cloning.

  • Selective Media Preparation: Added to LB/agar to a typical working concentration of 50–100 µg/mL from a 100 mg/mL stock for routine bacterial selection.

  • Plasmid Amplification for DNA Prep: Ensures retention of expression and cloning vectors in E. coli for mini-/maxipreps.

  • Selection in Gram-Negative Bacteria: Effective against susceptible species including Pseudomonas aeruginosa for beta-lactamase–based selection.

  • Plant Tissue Culture (Post-Transformation Cleanup): Used to suppress or eliminate residual Agrobacterium tumefaciens after plant transformation.
