100 mg/mL Carbenicillin Solution is a sterile antibiotic stock used to supplement microbiological media for selection and maintenance of beta-lactam–resistant bacterial strains. It is suitable for incorporation into agar plates or liquid culture to inhibit susceptible cells while allowing growth of transformants carrying beta-lactamase–encoding plasmids.

Common applications include selection of plasmid-bearing E. coli in cloning and expression workflows and maintenance of antibiotic resistance markers during routine culturing. Compatible with standard laboratory media such as LB, 2×YT, and TB in both agar and broth formats.

  • 100mg/mL Carbenicillin Disodium Salt
  • Plasmid Selection in Escherichia coli (E. coli): Alternative to ampicillin for selecting bla-bearing plasmids; more stable in media and reduces satellite colonies.

  • Maintenance of Plasmids in Liquid and Solid Media: Used at typical working concentrations of 50–100 µg/mL from a 100 mg/mL stock to maintain selective pressure during growth and protein expression.

  • Transformation and Cloning Workflows: Enables selection of transformants on LB agar or in broth, improving colony discrimination compared to ampicillin.

  • Selection in Non-Enteric Gram-Negatives: Employed for selection in organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa where carbenicillin provides effective beta-lactam selection.

  • Plant Tissue Culture (Post-Transformation Cleanup): Used to suppress or eliminate Agrobacterium tumefaciens after cocultivation while regenerating plant tissues.

  • Preparation of Antibiotic Plates and Media: Added to cooled sterile media to create selective LB/TB plates and broths for routine bacterial work.

  • Stability-Sensitive Applications: Preferred where reduced beta-lactam hydrolysis and fewer satellite colonies are critical for reliable selection.
