34 mg/mL Chloramphenicol is a ready-to-use antibiotic solution for laboratory applications in molecular biology and microbiology. It is supplied at a concentration of 34 mg/mL chloramphenicol.

This solution inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria and enables selection and maintenance of chloramphenicol-resistant strains carrying appropriate plasmids. It is suitable for use with common bacterial media (e.g., LB, 2XYT) for selection of transformants in E. coli and related hosts.

  • 34mg/mL Chloramphenicol
  • 100% Ethyl Alcohol
  • Bacterial Plasmid Selection and Maintenance: Selects and maintains chloramphenicol-resistant plasmids in Escherichia coli (E. coli) and other bacteria.

  • BAC/Cosmid/PAC Workflows: Supports selection and stable maintenance of large-capacity cloning vectors in E. coli.

  • Protein Expression Workflows: Ensures retention of chloramphenicol-selectable expression vectors during recombinant protein production in E. coli.

  • Agrobacterium and Plant Biology: Used for selection of chloramphenicol-marked plasmids in Agrobacterium tumefaciens during plant transformation workflows.

  • Gram-Positive Systems: Selection and maintenance of chloramphenicol-resistant constructs in organisms such as Bacillus subtilis.

  • Microbial Contamination Control in Fungal/Yeast Media: Added to culture media to suppress bacterial growth during isolation or propagation of fungi and yeasts.

  • Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase (CAT) Assays: Substrate for CAT reporter gene assays and enzymatic activity studies.

  • Ribosome and Translation Research: Tool compound to inhibit prokaryotic protein synthesis for mechanistic studies.

  • Antibiotic Susceptibility and QC Studies: Reference antibiotic in microbiology testing and quality control workflows.

  • Mixed-Culture Selection: Enrichment of chloramphenicol-resistant strains within mixed bacterial populations, including Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enterica, for genetic studies.
