Chloramphenicol Solution is an antibiotic reagent used for selection and maintenance of chloramphenicol-resistant bacterial strains. It inhibits prokaryotic protein synthesis via the 50S ribosomal subunit, enabling selection of plasmid-bearing transformants carrying chloramphenicol resistance markers in E. coli and related hosts. Applicable for incorporation into liquid media and agar plates in cloning and plasmid propagation workflows.

  • 10mg/mL Chloramphenicol
  • Bacterial Plasmid Selection: Sterile 10mg/mL Chloramphenicol stock for selecting and maintaining cat-marked plasmids in Escherichia coli and other bacteria.

  • BAC Clone Maintenance: Selection of bacterial artificial chromosome vectors carrying cat in Escherichia coli.

  • Protein Expression Systems: Maintains chloramphenicol-selectable helper and expression plasmids (e.g., pLysS/pLysE) in Escherichia coli.

  • Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing: Used in MIC and growth inhibition assays against organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Salmonella enterica.

  • Reporter Gene Assays (CAT): Substrate for chloramphenicol acetyltransferase reporter assays in molecular biology.

  • Recombineering/Gene Knockout Selection: Selection with cat cassettes during genome editing workflows in Escherichia coli and related bacteria.

  • Translation Inhibition Studies: Blocks prokaryotic protein synthesis for mechanistic studies of ribosome function.

  • Contamination Control: Suppresses chloramphenicol-sensitive bacterial contaminants in eukaryotic cell, insect, and plant tissue culture workflows.
