Cetrimide Agar Plates are a selective agar medium used for the isolation and presumptive differentiation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from mixed samples. The quaternary ammonium compound cetrimide suppresses competing microbial flora, and the medium supports characteristic pigment production by Pseudomonas species to aid recognition.

  • Cetrimide Agar
  • Selective Isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Recovers P. aeruginosa from mixed clinical and environmental samples using the selective properties of Cetrimide Agar.

  • Presumptive Identification via Pigment Production: Promotes pyocyanin and fluorescein production for presumptive recognition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Water and Environmental Testing: Detection and enumeration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in potable, recreational, and process waters.

  • Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Quality Control: Screening nonsterile products for objectionable Pseudomonas aeruginosa per pharmacopeial and regulatory guidelines.

  • Healthcare Environmental Monitoring: Surveillance of sinks, drains, faucets, and moist surfaces for Pseudomonas contamination.

  • Clinical Microbiology Workflows: Recovery of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from wound, respiratory, and urinary specimens as part of diagnostic algorithms.

  • Food and Beverage Hygiene Assessments: Screening of rinse waters and contact surfaces for Pseudomonas as hygiene indicators.

  • Industrial Microbiology and Utilities Monitoring: Detection of Pseudomonas in cooling towers, wastewater, and process systems.

  • Research on Pseudomonas Phenotypes: Studying pigment expression and colony morphology of Pseudomonas under selective pressure.

  • Presumptive Screening Prior to Confirmation: Initial isolation step before confirmatory tests (e.g., oxidase testing, growth at 42°C) for Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
