Ampicillin Sodium Salt is a beta-lactam antibiotic used in molecular biology and microbiology to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. It supports the selection and maintenance of ampicillin-resistant, plasmid-bearing strains, including E. coli, when incorporated into growth media.

This reagent is water-soluble and compatible with sterile aqueous stock preparation and filter sterilization. It is commonly used for cloning workflows, plasmid maintenance, and routine selection of transformants in E. coli and related applications.

  • Ampicillin Sodium Salt
  • Bacterial Selection and Plasmid Maintenance: Selects for AmpR plasmids in Escherichia coli and other susceptible bacteria during cloning and routine culture.

  • Transformation Screening on Agar Plates: Enables selection of transformants on LB agar; compatible with blue-white screening (X-gal/IPTG) in Escherichia coli.

  • Liquid Culture Selection: Maintains selective pressure in shaking cultures to prevent plasmid loss in Escherichia coli.

  • Recombinant Protein Expression Workflows: Supports maintenance of AmpR expression vectors in Escherichia coli during induction and growth.

  • Plasmid DNA Preparation: Ensures high-yield propagation of AmpR plasmids prior to mini/midi/maxiprep from Escherichia coli.

  • Library Construction and Screening: Provides selection for AmpR libraries (e.g., directed evolution, CRISPR cloning) in Escherichia coli.

  • General Antimicrobial in Microbiology Media: Inhibits growth of β-lactam–susceptible bacteria to reduce background contamination in bacterial workflows.
