50 mg/mL Ampicillin Solution is a concentrated beta-lactam antibiotic stock used for selection and maintenance of ampicillin-resistant bacterial strains in molecular biology and microbiology applications. It targets bacterial cell wall synthesis in susceptible organisms and supports selection of plasmid-bearing transformants in E. coli carrying beta-lactamase.

Provided as a 50 mg/mL aqueous solution for dilution into culture media. Suitable for preparing plates or liquid cultures where selection of ampicillin-resistant E. coli is required.

  • 50mg/mL Ampicillin Sodium Salt
  • Antibiotic Selection in Bacterial Culture: Selects for bla (β-lactamase) plasmid-bearing E. coli using a 50 mg/mL stock diluted to typical 50–100 µg/mL final concentration.

  • Plasmid Maintenance and Cloning: Maintains ampicillin-resistant plasmids during cloning, subculturing, and miniprep/maxiprep workflows in E. coli.

  • Recombinant Protein Expression: Ensures retention of expression plasmids in E. coli during induction and culture growth.

  • LB/Agar Plate Preparation: Supplementation of LB agar/broth with ampicillin for selection of transformed E. coli colonies.

  • Blue-White Screening: Used with X-gal/IPTG on LB–ampicillin plates to identify recombinant clones in E. coli.

  • Starter Cultures and Glycerol Stocks: Selection during overnight cultures and long-term storage of ampicillin-resistant E. coli clones.

  • Contamination Control in Bacterial Workflows: Helps suppress susceptible bacterial contaminants in media and buffers when appropriate.
