100 mg/mL Ampicillin is a ready-to-use aqueous antibiotic solution for bacterial selection and plasmid maintenance in molecular biology workflows. It supports the growth and selection of ampicillin-resistant E. coli strains in liquid culture and agar media, and is suitable for maintaining plasmids encoding beta-lactamase.

Typical working concentrations are 50–100 µg/mL in culture media. For agar preparation, add to sterile, cooled media prior to pouring. Do not autoclave in media. Store at −20 °C, protect from repeated freeze–thaw cycles, and keep shielded from prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures.

  • 100mg/mL Ampicillin Sodium Salt

  • Plasmid Selection in Escherichia coli: Selects for AmpR plasmid-bearing clones via β-lactam resistance (bla) during cloning and propagation.

  • Selective Liquid Media: Supplementation of LB/Miller, LB/Lennox, 2xYT, or Terrific Broth with ampicillin for growth and maintenance of AmpR cultures.

  • Selective Agar Plates: Preparation of LB agar plates with ampicillin for post-transformation colony selection in Escherichia coli.

  • Blue-White Screening: Screening recombinant colonies on Amp/X-gal/IPTG plates in Escherichia coli.

  • Protein Expression: Growth of AmpR expression strains of Escherichia coli for recombinant protein production.

  • Plasmid Maintenance: Ensures retention of AmpR plasmids during overnight cultures and starter cultures for minipreps/midipreps.

  • Glycerol Stocks and Streaking: Long-term storage and routine streaking of AmpR Escherichia coli strains on selective media.

  • Contamination Control: Suppression of ampicillin-sensitive bacterial contaminants in microbial media and buffers.
