~ATCC Medium 111 is a yeast extract–mannitol agar supplemented with African violet soil extract for cultivation and maintenance of soil-associated bacteria, including Agrobacterium and Rhizobium spp.

Mannitol serves as the primary carbon source, and yeast extract provides nitrogen, vitamins, and growth factors. African violet soil extract supplies soil-derived organic compounds and minerals, and agar provides a firm surface suitable for isolation, streaking, and colony morphology assessment.

  • 0.1% Yeast Extract
  • 1.0% Mannitol
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 20.0% African Violet Soil Extract
  • Cultivation of Beijerinckia spp.: Supports robust growth of diazotrophic Beijerinckia (e.g., Beijerinckia indica) using mannitol as carbon source and African Violet soil extract for essential growth factors.

  • Isolation from soil samples: Enables selective recovery and purification of soil-derived Beijerinckia and related diazotrophs on solid agar for colony picking.

  • Maintenance and stock culture preparation: Used to propagate and maintain stable working stocks of Beijerinckia spp. on plates or slants.

  • Colony morphology and pigment assessment: Facilitates observation of colony characteristics and pigment production influenced by soil extract and mannitol.

  • Enumeration and viability (CFU) testing: Suitable for plating and counting viable cells from environmental or lab cultures of Beijerinckia.

  • Nitrogen-fixation research workflows: Applied in comparative growth assays of diazotrophs (e.g., Beijerinckia, Derxia) under defined carbon and growth factor conditions.
