5M Calcium Chloride is a concentrated aqueous solution that provides calcium ions for molecular biology and microbiology workflows. It is used in the preparation of chemically competent E. coli cells for plasmid transformation and to facilitate bacteriophage adsorption to E. coli hosts. It can also be used for procedures requiring controlled calcium ion concentrations, buffer supplementation, and alginate gelation in laboratory settings.

  • 5M Calcium Chloride
  • Chemical Transformation of Escherichia coli: Used to prepare chemically competent cells and facilitate heat-shock DNA uptake.

  • Bacteriophage Infection Assays: Enhances adsorption and infection efficiency of phages in Escherichia coli cultures.

  • Calcium Phosphate Transfection: Provides Ca2+ to form DNA–calcium phosphate precipitates for mammalian cell transfection.

  • Enzyme Stabilization and Activation: Supplies Ca2+ for Ca2+-dependent enzymes and helps stabilize proteins during assays and storage.

  • Alginate Gelation and Encapsulation: Crosslinks sodium alginate to form hydrogels and microbeads for cell encapsulation and biomaterials.

  • Media and Buffer Supplementation: Adjusts calcium levels in microbial and mammalian cell culture media and biochemical buffers.
