Poloxamer 188 (100X) is an aqueous stock solution of the nonionic triblock copolymer surfactant poloxamer 188 (also known as Pluronic F‑68). It is supplied as a 100-fold concentrate for dilution into culture media and buffers.

Commonly used as a media and buffer additive in mammalian cell culture, microbial fermentation, and downstream processing, including workflows involving yeasts and E. coli. Prepare working solutions by aseptic dilution into the desired matrix.

  • 10% Poloxamer 188
  • Mammalian Cell Culture: 10% Poloxamer 188 (100X) used at 1:100 to 0.1% final to protect suspension cells from shear and reduce foaming in shake flasks and bioreactors.

  • Viral Vector Production and Formulation: Minimizes AAV/lentiviral adsorption to plastics and improves recovery in harvest, purification, and final buffers (use from 0.001–0.1% final).

  • Protein and Antibody Formulation: Reduces surface adsorption and aggregation during purification, storage, and shipping to improve stability and yield.

  • Cell Therapy Manufacturing: Protects primary cells and CAR-T during mixing, pipetting, and bioreactor processing by mitigating shear stress.

  • Microfluidics and Single-Cell Workflows: Acts as a non-ionic surfactant to stabilize droplets and reduce cell/biomolecule adhesion to channels and tubing.

  • Immunoassays and Bead-Based Assays: Limits nonspecific binding to plastics and beads, improving signal consistency in ELISA and multiplex assays.

  • Cryopreservation and Thawing: Added at low percentages to protect cell membranes and improve post-thaw viability.

  • Chromatography Buffers: Added to mobile and wash buffers to reduce nonspecific adsorption of proteins and vectors to columns and hardware.

  • Filtration and Fill–Finish: Improves product recovery by preventing adsorption to membranes, lines, and containers during sterile filtration and filling.

  • Imaging and Flow Cytometry: Reduces cell clumping and sticking to plastic or glassware for more consistent sample handling.
