Tryptic Soy Agar Plates are a general-purpose agar medium formulated with enzymatic digests of casein and soybean meal, sodium chloride, and agar. This medium is used for the cultivation and maintenance of nonfastidious microorganisms from clinical, environmental, and industrial samples.

Typical applications include routine cultivation, enumeration, and colony morphology assessment of diverse bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as other aerobic and facultative anaerobic organisms. The medium also serves as a base for supplementation when specific components (e.g., blood) are required.

  • 1.5% Tryptone
  • 0.5% Soytone
  • 0.5% Sodium Chloride
  • 1.5% Agar
  • General Bacterial Cultivation: Supports robust growth of nonfastidious organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis for routine culture and isolation.

  • Colony Isolation and Enumeration: Used for streak plating and total aerobic plate counts in clinical, food, water, and environmental testing.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Employed as a settle or exposure plate for air and surface bioburden assessments in cleanrooms and labs.

  • Microbial Purity Testing (QC): Applied in pharmaceutical and biotechnology workflows (Soybean-Casein Digest Agar) to detect bacterial contamination.

  • Maintenance of Stock Cultures: Provides a nutrient-rich, nonselective medium for preserving and subculturing lab strains.

  • Surface and Swab Testing: Receives swabbed samples from equipment, benchtops, and personnel for hygiene verification.

  • Food and Beverage Microbiology: Facilitates recovery and enumeration of aerobic bacteria, including Salmonella enterica and Listeria monocytogenes (with appropriate pre-enrichment/confirmation).

  • Clinical Pre-Enrichment and Screening: Serves as a general growth medium prior to selective/differential testing of isolates such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus faecalis.

  • Colony Morphology and Pigment Observation: Enables visual assessment of colony characteristics, aiding preliminary identification.

  • Automation and High-Throughput Workflows: Rectangular 86x128 mm plates support robotic colony picking, replica plating, and imaging systems.
