Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone (0.19%) Solution, pH 7.0 is a buffered isotonic diluent for sample preparation, rinsing, and serial dilution in microbiological workflows. The phosphate buffer maintains near-neutral pH during handling, sodium chloride provides osmotic balance, and peptone supplies minimal nutrients to help preserve cellular integrity without promoting significant growth.

Suitable for preparing test portions and dilutions prior to enumeration or detection procedures involving organisms such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and other members of the Enterobacteriaceae. Prepared at pH 7.0 to support consistent processing of food, water, environmental, and clinical microbiology samples.

  • 0.19% Peptone
  • 0.43% Sodium Chloride
  • 0.36% Potassium Phosphate
  • 0.57% Sodium Phosphate
  • Pre-enrichment of stressed pathogens in foods: Resuscitates sublethally injured cells, especially Salmonella, prior to selective enrichment and detection.

  • Non-selective enrichment for pathogen screening: Initial cultivation step for detecting Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria spp. in complex samples.

  • Sample diluent and homogenization medium: Used for preparing food, environmental, and clinical matrices for microbial testing and enumeration.

  • Environmental monitoring (swab/rinse): Rinse medium for surface swabs and contact plates to recover stressed or low-level organisms.

  • Transport and holding medium (short-term): Maintains organism viability and pH/osmotic balance during sample transfer to the lab.

  • Serial dilutions and inoculum preparation: Provides isotonic, buffered conditions for preparing accurate microbial dilutions.

  • Filter rinsing and recovery: Enhances microbial recovery from membranes following filtration of food or water samples.

  • Upstream culture step for rapid methods: Supports pre-enrichment before immunoassays or molecular assays targeting pathogens such as Salmonella.

  • pH: 7.00 ± 0.10
