Proteinase K solution is a broad-spectrum serine protease used for digestion of proteins and inactivation of nucleases during DNA and RNA purification workflows. It supports cell and tissue lysis, removal of protein contaminants from nucleic acid preparations, and cleanup of enzymatic reactions.

Applications include genomic DNA extraction from cultured cells, tissues, blood, and microbial samples such as E. coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, RNA isolation workflows requiring proteolysis, and degradation of proteins in lysates and crude extracts prior to downstream analysis.

  • DNA and RNA Extraction: The 10mg/mL Proteinase K Solution digests proteins and inactivates DNases/RNases to release high-quality nucleic acids from cells, tissues, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, yeast, and fungi.

  • Genomic DNA from Tough Microbes: Facilitates lysis (often with SDS/EDTA) to recover DNA from robust organisms such as Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Plasmid Preparation: Degrades protein contaminants after alkaline lysis, improving plasmid yield and purity.
