YM Agar Plates are a general-purpose solid medium for the cultivation and maintenance of yeasts and molds. The formulation provides vitamin- and nitrogen-rich extracts, a defined carbohydrate source, and a stable gelling matrix to support routine culture propagation, isolation, and enumeration of fungal organisms.

Applications include stock culture maintenance, colony morphology assessment, and environmental or process monitoring of yeast and mold bioburden. Plates are non-selective and suitable for standard fungal incubation conditions. Store refrigerated and protect from dehydration and contamination.

  • 0.3% Malt Extract
  • 0.3% Yeast Extract
  • 0.5% Peptone
  • 1.0% Dextrose
  • 2.0% Agar
  • Yeast and Mold Cultivation: Supports robust growth of yeasts and filamentous fungi for routine culture using malt extract, yeast extract, peptone, dextrose, and agar.

  • Colony Isolation and Morphology: Enables streaking and single-colony isolation for phenotypic observation and purification of fungal cultures.

  • Yeast/Mold Enumeration (Plate Counts): Used for CFU enumeration in food, beverage, cosmetics, and water testing.

  • Food & Beverage Quality Control: Monitors fungal contaminants in brewing, winemaking, kombucha, and dairy production.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Applied as settle or surface-contact plates for air and surface bioburden assessment of yeasts and molds.

  • Fermentation and Bioprocess QC: Tracks fungal bioburden and isolates process-relevant yeasts during scale-up and production.

  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (Yeasts/Molds): Suitable for disk diffusion or agar dilution assays against antifungals.

  • Yeast Genetic Workflows: Used for recovery and plating of transformed or mated yeast strains in cloning and screening.

  • Culture Maintenance and Storage: Maintains working stocks and short-term storage of yeast and mold strains on plates or slants.

  • Microbial Limits Testing: Supports pharmacopeial fungal count methods for raw materials and finished products.
