Yeast Malt Extract Agar Plates are a ready-to-use solid medium formulated with malt extract, yeast extract, dextrose, and agar. The medium provides carbohydrates, nitrogenous compounds, vitamins, and minerals suitable for cultivation and maintenance of yeasts and filamentous fungi.

Typical applications include isolation of environmental and laboratory yeast and mold strains, propagation of stock cultures, and enumeration of fungal contaminants in samples. Plates are supplied pre-poured in sterile Petri dishes and are used for aerobic incubation at standard fungal culture temperatures.

  • 1.0% Malt Extract
  • 0.4% Yeast Extract
  • 0.4% Dextrose
  • 2.0% Agar
  • Yeast and Mold Cultivation: General growth and maintenance of a broad range of yeasts and filamentous fungi.

  • Yeast/Mold Enumeration (Food & Beverage): Plate counts from foods, juices, beer, and wine for quality control.

  • Fermentation QC (Breweries/Wineries): Monitoring production strains and detecting spoilage yeasts during fermentation.

  • Environmental Monitoring (Air/Settle Plates): Detection of airborne fungal contamination in production and lab spaces.

  • Pharma/Cosmetics Bioburden (Fungal): Assessment of yeast and mold contamination in raw materials and finished goods.

  • Isolation and Purification of Yeasts: Streaking, colony selection, and purification of mixed yeast cultures.

  • Recovery of Stressed Yeasts: Resuscitation and subculture of yeast cells following stress or preservation.

  • Strain Characterization: Preliminary phenotyping of yeast and mold isolates by colony morphology and growth rate.

  • Teaching and Training: Academic and training labs for basic mycology and environmental microbiology exercises.

  • Short-Term Culture Maintenance: Routine maintenance and storage of working yeast and mold stocks on plates.
