YPD Agar Plates, 40 mL fill, are non-selective, complex agar plates for cultivation and maintenance of yeasts on solid medium. Suitable for routine propagation and colony isolation of species such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and Candida albicans.

Each plate is poured to a 40 mL fill volume to provide consistent agar depth for streaking, isolation, and enumeration workflows. Plates are supplied ready-to-use and are intended for general laboratory culture applications involving yeasts and other fungi.

Storage: 2–8 °C, protected from light. For microbiological use.

  • 1.0% Yeast Extract
  • 2.0% Peptone
  • 2.0% Glucose
  • 2.0% Agar
  • Yeast Strain Cultivation and Colony Isolation: Rich, non-selective medium for robust growth and single-colony isolation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other yeasts.

  • Starter Cultures and Pre-Cultivation: Establishes vigorous starter cultures for downstream fermentation or genetic workflows.

  • CFU Enumeration and Viability Testing: Quantifies colony-forming units and assesses strain viability on a consistent rich medium.

  • Post-Transformation Recovery: Supports recovery and outgrowth after lithium acetate/PEG or electroporation-based yeast transformations.

  • Replica Plating and Phenotypic Screening: Enables temperature-sensitivity, drug-sensitivity, and nutrient-response screens on non-selective background.

  • Antibiotic/Dominant Marker Selection (with Supplements): Accepts additives (e.g., G418, hygromycin) for selection of dominant resistance markers in yeast.

  • Mating and Ploidy Workflows: Facilitates strain crossing, zygote recovery, and ploidy maintenance prior to specialized media steps.

  • Yeast and Fungal Maintenance: Routine streaking and short-term storage of common yeasts (e.g., Saccharomyces, Candida) on a 1.0% yeast extract, 2.0% peptone, 2.0% glucose, 2.0% agar formulation.

  • Drug and Stress Tolerance Assays: Baseline rich medium for testing compounds or stressors (e.g., ethanol, oxidative agents) without nutrient limitations.

  • Metabolic and Fermentation Trait Assessment: Evaluates growth rate and biomass accumulation under standardized 2% glucose conditions.
