YPD Agar Plates are a general-purpose yeast medium composed of yeast extract and peptone as complex nutrient sources, glucose as the primary carbon source, and agar as a solidifying agent. This formulation is used for cultivating nonfastidious yeasts on solid surfaces.

Common applications include routine growth, colony isolation, and maintenance of laboratory strains such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as well as other yeast species in microbiology and molecular genetics workflows.

  • 1.0% Yeast Extract
  • 2.0% Peptone
  • 2.0% Cerelose Anhydrous Dextrose (Glucose)
  • 2.0% Agar
  • Yeast Cultivation and Maintenance: Routine growth and propagation of Saccharomyces and other non-pathogenic yeasts on a rich, nonselective medium.

  • Colony Isolation and Enumeration: Streaking, single-colony isolation, and CFU counting for yeast cultures.

  • Post-Transformation Recovery: Recovery of yeast after chemical, electroporation, or CRISPR editing prior to selection.

  • Phenotypic Screening: Assessing growth differences, temperature sensitivity, and drug responses (with supplements as needed).

  • Replica Plating Master Plates: Preparing dense master plates for subsequent replica transfer onto selective media.

  • Fermentation Strain Screening: Preliminary screening and comparison of industrial or laboratory yeast strains for performance traits.

  • Yeast Viability and Fitness Assays: Monitoring viability, growth rates, and competitive fitness in rich conditions.

  • Germination and Recovery of Spores: Plating dissected tetrads or spores for germination and colony outgrowth.

  • Short-Term Culture Storage: Maintaining patches or lawns for short-term storage and routine passaging.

  • General Fungal Cultivation: Nonselective culture of various yeasts and fungi requiring a nutrient-rich medium.
