Vogel Agar Plates are a defined, solid medium based on Vogel’s salts and glucose for cultivation and genetic analysis of filamentous fungi. Suitable for routine streaking, single-colony isolation, and phenotype assessment of laboratory strains such as Neurospora crassa.

Plates are prepared by autoclaving the medium and pouring under aseptic conditions. For general laboratory use in microbiology and fungal genetics workflows; not for diagnostic use.

  • 1X Vogel's Salt Solution
  • 1.0% Glucose
  • 2.0% Agar
  • Filamentous Fungi Cultivation: Defined minimal medium for growth and maintenance of Neurospora/Aspergillus on 1X Vogel’s salts with 1.0% glucose and 2.0% agar.

  • Auxotroph Selection and Complementation: Selection and verification of nutritional mutants on minimal agar with targeted supplements.

  • Phenotypic and Metabolic Profiling: Assess carbon utilization, growth rates, and metabolic pathways under controlled 1.0% glucose conditions.

  • Spore Plating and Colony Isolation: Conidia/spore plating for single-colony isolation and clonal line establishment.

  • Genetic Screens and Mutant Isolation: Forward/reverse genetic screening on a defined medium to resolve growth defects and pathway dependencies.

  • Transformation and Genome Editing Workflows: Selection of fungal transformants (e.g., marker-based) on minimal agar for stable integration/edit verification.

  • Mating/Crosses and Progeny Analysis: Support for fungal crosses and segregation analysis on uniform minimal nutrient background.

  • Contamination Monitoring in Fungal Cultures: Differentiation of target filamentous fungi from fast-growing contaminants on a defined medium.
