1M Sodium Citrate, pH 5.0 is a citrate buffer and chelating solution for pH control and sequestration of divalent cations (e.g., Ca2+, Mg2+) in biochemical and microbiological workflows. It is used for buffer preparation, sample conditioning, quenching of cation-dependent enzymes, antigen retrieval, and dissociation or elution steps requiring low pH with defined ionic strength. It can adjust the pH and ionic composition of media, extracts, and chromatography buffers without introducing additional counter-ions.

  • 1M Sodium Citrate
  • Buffer Preparation: 1M Sodium Citrate, pH 5.0 provides precise acidic buffering for biochemical workflows and sample stabilization.

  • Enzyme Assays: Maintains optimal pH for acid-active enzymes (e.g., lysosomal hydrolases) using 1M Sodium Citrate, pH 5.0.

  • Nuclease/Protease Inhibition: Chelates divalent cations (Ca2+/Mg2+) to suppress nuclease and protease activity and to stop reactions.

  • Chromatography Buffers: Used as a citrate buffer in cation-exchange workflows and for gentle protein elution at pH 5.0.

  • DNA/RNA Extraction: Supports acidic lysis and stabilizes nucleic acids by metal ion chelation during purification.

  • Cell and Tissue Dissociation: Aids Ca2+/Mg2+ chelation for gentle cell detachment and tissue dissociation.

  • Antigen Retrieval (IHC): Serves as a citrate-based retrieval buffer for heat-induced epitope retrieval at acidic pH.

  • Microbiology Media Component: Provides citrate as a carbon source in utilization tests for organisms such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter aerogenes.

  • Blood/Plasma Processing: Used to prepare citrate-based anticoagulant or quench solutions by chelating calcium.

  • Dialysis and Storage: Maintains sample integrity at pH 5.0 during buffer exchange and short-term storage.
