SDS Solution is an anionic surfactant reagent for molecular biology and biochemistry applications. It supports protein denaturation and membrane solubilization, enabling preparation of samples for SDS-PAGE and related analytical workflows.

The solution is suitable for use in cell disruption and extraction protocols across diverse sample types, including preparation of lysates from E. coli. It is compatible with common electrophoresis buffers and reducing agents.

  • 20% Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate
  • SDS-PAGE Sample Preparation: Denatures proteins and imparts uniform negative charge for size-based separation.

  • Protein Solubilization: Solubilizes aggregate and membrane proteins for downstream analysis.

  • Cell Lysis: Disrupts cell membranes of E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and mammalian cells to release proteins and nucleic acids.

  • Nucleic Acid Purification: Used with proteinase K to remove proteins and inactivate nucleases during DNA/RNA isolation.

  • Western Blotting: Components in sample buffers and some stripping buffers to denature proteins and elute antibodies.

  • Membrane Protein Extraction: Disrupts lipid bilayers to extract and analyze membrane-associated proteins.

  • Inclusion Body Solubilization: Solubilizes protein inclusion bodies prior to refolding workflows.

  • Virus and Microbial Inactivation: Disrupts enveloped viruses and denatures microbial proteins for safe sample handling.

  • Buffer and Reagent Preparation: Stock for preparing Tris-Glycine-SDS electrophoresis and related transfer buffers.

  • Labware Decontamination: Detergent-based removal of proteins, lipids, and residual biomolecules from equipment and surfaces.
