0.9% Saline Solution is an isotonic aqueous solution for general laboratory procedures including sample dilution, cell washing, and preparation of suspensions.

Commonly used with cultured cells and microorganisms such as E. coli to provide osmotic balance during handling and processing.

  • 0.9% Sodium Chloride
  • Sample Dilution and Resuspension: Isotonic diluent for preparing serial dilutions and resuspending pellets or lyophilized materials without osmotic stress.

  • Cell and Tissue Washing: Rinses cell monolayers and tissues to remove media, serum, or inhibitors while maintaining physiological tonicity.

  • Flow Cytometry/Cell Sorting: Suspends and transports cells for FACS analysis and sorting to preserve viability and reduce aggregation.

  • Microbial Cell Handling: Washes and suspends bacterial cells (e.g., E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus) for transformation, plating, or downstream assays.

  • Hematology and Cell Counting: Serves as an isotonic medium for hemocytometer or automated counter measurements of mammalian and microbial cells.

  • Assay Controls and Standards: Provides a neutral, inert matrix for preparing blanks, standards, and controls in biochemical and molecular assays.

  • Chromatography and Instrument Flushing: Flushes lines, dilutes fractions, and conditions tubing without introducing reactive components.

  • Reagent Preparation: Reconstitutes and dilutes buffers, enzymes, and antibodies where an ionic but non-buffered environment is required.

  • Osmolarity Maintenance in Experiments: Maintains physiological ionic strength in studies sensitive to osmotic changes.

  • Microscopy Sample Handling: Rinses and maintains cells or tissues during imaging to minimize osmotic artifacts.
