10% Sarkosyl Solution is an aqueous, ready-to-use anionic surfactant preparation for laboratory workflows in molecular biology and microbiology. It is used to disrupt lipid membranes and denature proteins in cell and tissue lysates, and is incorporated into lysis buffers for processing bacterial cultures such as E. coli, yeast, and mammalian cells.

Typical applications include solubilization of membrane components, facilitation of nucleic acid extraction, and sample preparation for downstream analyses. Working concentrations are commonly in the 0.1–2% range, adjusted per protocol requirements. The solution may become cloudy at lower temperatures and can be clarified by gentle warming.

  • 10% Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosine
  • Cell Lysis for Protein Extraction: Disrupts cellular and nuclear membranes to release proteins and nucleic acids from diverse sample types.

  • Membrane Protein Solubilization: Efficiently solubilizes integral membrane proteins to improve recovery and downstream analysis.

  • Genomic DNA Extraction: Enhances lysis and protein denaturation in phenol–chloroform and column workflows, yielding high–molecular weight DNA for long‑read sequencing.

  • RNA Extraction: Aids sample lysis and RNase inhibition to improve total RNA yield and integrity.

  • Nuclease Inactivation: Inhibits DNases and RNases during nucleic acid purification to prevent degradation.

  • Inclusion Body Solubilization: Solubilizes recombinant protein inclusion bodies to enable refolding and purification.

  • Outer Membrane Protein/LPS Extraction: Selectively extracts outer membrane components from Gram‑negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli for proteomics and LPS studies.

  • Sample Decontamination/Inactivation: Denatures and inactivates enveloped viruses and bacteria to reduce bioburden in preparative workflows.

  • Metagenomic and Microbiome DNA Prep: Improves lysis of diverse microorganisms to increase DNA recovery from complex samples.
