4M Sodium Chloride is a concentrated salt solution that provides a defined 4 mol/L NaCl for applications requiring elevated ionic strength. It is used to adjust osmolarity in buffers and media, facilitate protein and nucleic acid processing steps such as salting-out and phase separation, set stringent wash conditions, and calibrate or verify conductivity-based methods.

Suitable for routine laboratory workflows, including preparation of salt gradients, sample dilution with controlled ionic strength, and osmotic adjustments in microbial and cell culture procedures involving organisms such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • 4M Sodium Chloride
  • Ion-Exchange Chromatography: Generates high-salt steps or gradients to elute bound proteins or nucleic acids.

  • Buffer Preparation & Ionic Strength Adjustment: Diluted into PBS, TBS, and SSC to set conductivity and reduce nonspecific interactions.

  • Protein Extraction & Lysis Buffers: Maintains ionic strength to improve protein solubility and limit nonspecific binding.

  • Nucleic Acid Purification (Salting-Out): Added to precipitate proteins and aid DNA cleanup from cell lysates.

  • Hybridization & Wash Solutions: Used to prepare SSC/SSPE stringency washes for nucleic acid hybridization assays.

  • ELISA/Western Wash Buffers: Adjusts salt in PBS/TBS (with or without Tween) to minimize background.

  • Isotonic Saline and Sample Dilution: Diluted to physiologic levels for cell handling and osmotic balance.

  • Microbiology Media Supplementation: Provides controlled salinity for cultivating halotolerant organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Protein Chromatography Desorption: High-salt steps disrupt weak ionic interactions during affinity and HIC workflows.

  • Nuclease Activity Control: Elevated ionic strength conditions can reduce nonspecific nuclease activity during DNA handling.
