3M Sodium Hydroxide is an aqueous alkaline reagent used for pH adjustment of buffers and microbiological media, including pre- and post-sterilization pH correction for cultures of microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is employed in workflows requiring controlled alkalinity for solution preparation and process standardization.

Typical applications include acid neutralization steps, base-catalyzed hydrolysis and saponification, regeneration of anion-exchange resins, cleaning-in-place procedures, and use as a titrant in acid–base analyses. Store in a tightly closed container to minimize atmospheric CO₂ uptake, and handle with appropriate precautions for corrosive bases.

  • 3M Sodium Hydroxide
  • pH Adjustment and Buffer Preparation: Used with 3M Sodium Hydroxide to rapidly adjust pH of buffers, media, and process intermediates.

  • Chromatography Column Cleaning/Regeneration: Applied as 3M Sodium Hydroxide for sanitizing, stripping, and regenerating resin-packed columns.

  • CIP/Sanitization of Bioprocess Equipment: Utilized as 3M Sodium Hydroxide in clean-in-place cycles for tanks, tubing, and filtration systems.

  • Depyrogenation/Endotoxin Reduction: Employed with 3M Sodium Hydroxide to remove endotoxins from glassware and equipment.

  • Plasmid DNA Alkaline Lysis: Used as 3M Sodium Hydroxide for cell lysis in plasmid prep workflows from Escherichia coli cultures.

  • Neutralization and Titration: Applied as 3M Sodium Hydroxide for neutralizing acidic samples and conducting strong-base titrations.

  • Protein and Resin Decontamination: Used with 3M Sodium Hydroxide to remove fouling proteins and bioburden from process surfaces.

  • Microbial Inactivation for Surfaces/Solutions: Employed as 3M Sodium Hydroxide for inactivation of contaminants including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
