50 °Brix Solution is an aqueous carbohydrate standard adjusted to a refractometric value of 50 °Bx at 20 °C. It is suitable for verifying and calibrating refractometers and density meters, preparing sugar-density gradients, and conducting osmotic pressure and concentration-dependent studies in food, fermentation, and laboratory workflows.

Typical properties at 20 °C: 50.0 °Bx; refractive index (nD20) ≈ 1.4204; density ≈ 1.230 g/mL; clear, colorless liquid.

  • 50% Sucrose Solution
  • Density Gradient Centrifugation: Prepare sucrose cushions/gradients for isolation of viruses, organelles, ribosomes, and membranes.

  • Virus and Phage Concentration: Create sucrose cushions for concentrating and purifying viral particles and bacteriophages.

  • Osmotic Stabilization: Protect spheroplasts/protoplasts during cell wall removal and handling in Escherichia coli and yeast workflows.

  • Buffer Preparation: Dilute to formulate sucrose-containing buffers for mitochondria and nuclei isolation.

  • Cryoprotection: Supplement freezing and storage solutions to stabilize cells, proteins, and enzymes.

  • Refractometer Calibration: Use as a 50 Brix standard for Brix/refractometer verification and QC.

  • Sample Layering: Increase solution density/viscosity for layered loading in centrifugation and chromatography.

  • Protein and Enzyme Stabilization: Reduce aggregation and denaturation during purification and storage.

  • Microbial Media Osmolarity: Adjust osmotic strength in culture media for Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and other bacteria.

  • Tissue and Organelle Handling: Provide isotonic conditions for tissue slicing and subcellular fractionation workflows.
